I honestly have moved past the guilt of listening to "uncool" music but I feel really guilty for listening to Michael Jackson. My defense is that I get one (1) Bad Human to love listening to but idk if that holds up. I hear you. Very problematic, but I like Burzum so you know...

Two albums - Mudvayne / LD50 and Incubus / Science. I really can't stand anything else these bands did but those two albums are special to me. I like all of Incubus' stuff through Morning View. I like Korn's stuff (mostly) through Issues which is their best album and still holds up. No apologies at all from me for the nu metal love. I will always argue Deftones never was nu-metal sans one fucking song they never wanted to release anyway.

I feel like you could make the case Deftones were adjacent to the nu metal sound with their first album. Definitely not ashamed to say most of their music rules tho
Also, I remember seeing Gojira ages ago at the Webster Hall basement. Played with Car Bomb if I remember right. Kind of astonishing how tight they sounded live.

Anybody who says those first three albums aren't good is talking nonsense

I really don't think the rest of their catalog belongs with what people consider the nu-metal staples. Now - that may be me fanboying a little because I think their musicianship and song-writing skills pushes them out of lumping them with the likes of Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, etc. It seems a lazy designation anyway. It is the only song that features that pseudo-rap style that to me, all the real bands in that genre should have. FYI, Wiki's list of nu-metal bands is trash. Wiki Shit List of Nu Metal
