I don't listen to a lot of hip hop, there's stuff I do love like RTJ, Doomtree, classic 90s rap but this Oblivion Access from Lil Ugly Mane, it's weird and I really like it

Another one, Melt Banana. I saw them open for Melvins a few years ago. It was two people on stage, one with a guitar and one with what appeared to be a video game controller. It was fun.

Was just listening to Run The Jewels a moment ago. If you enjoy the production, I strongly recommend Cannibal Ox if you haven't checked them out. Strong memories of just getting high in my car and playing this front to back all the time in my late teens. Possibly my favorite instrumentals from El-P. Edit: Melt Banana and Ugly Mane rule. Bitch I'm Lugubrious and Underwater Tank are stupid catchy.

Dawn of the Deli Creeps by The Deli Creeps (Buckethead's first band). Definitely my go-to weird album. youtu.be/GkuTN3gvtGo Fair warning, Maximum Bob wrote some very weird and disturbing lyrics for this.

That Deli Creeps record was my shit in high school man. Completely forgot about that band. For a moment it was all about them, Dog Fashion Disco and Mr. Bungle.

ah, now DFD and Mr Bungle I love. I saw that Mr Bungle show in SF last year. I will have to check out Deli Creeps, never heard them.
(EDIT: oh shit, that was this year in SF. Man I am totally out of it now with this lockdown shit)

I was always a fan of when the Melvins would just turn the weird way up in the mix.

So I'm not big into country music, I guess I'm more into rockabilly like Reverend Horton Heat. I saw this band, The Legendary Shack Shakers open for Reverend Horton Heat and I loved them. They kind of go across rock / rockabilly / country / bluegrass in their stuff. At the time I first saw them Duane Denison was playing guitar with them. I described them to a friend as "if the Dead Kennedys were a country band". Apparently they've toured with Jello Biafra too
I've seen them a couple times since and I still love them

Yeah, they are another band that I didn't really listen to until the last few years and I really like them a lot. I try to catch them every time they come through now

Oh man, I can't believe I forgot about J.G. Thirlwell and all his various Foetus projects (and the music for Venture Bros, which is also excellent)
I don't even know how you really classify his stuff, I know some people call it industrial or something but I don't think it really fits. It's just weird and out there, which is what I love about it.

Heads up from mpls don't support Doomtree. I really like LUM. Oblivion Access didn't grab me as much as Mista Thug Isolation in part because it came across as a bit backpack rapish to me. Have you checked out his project Bedwetter? It's unbelievable but super harsh. CW for frank mentions of CSA. liluglymane.bandcamp.com/album/volume-1-flick-your-tongue-against-your-teeth-and-describe-the-present

oh man, what did Doomtree do? TLDR POS is an actual POS. Mike Mictlan also got super creepy with my housemate when they worked for Doomtree. Used a spreadsheet of info on people working for a specific event to get their number and start texting them. Kept insisting they sit next to each other. That kind of thing. I guess he just insisted they'd get dinner at Chino Latino (local restaurant) one night without actually asking and my housemate stood him up and never heard from him again.

WRT POS I actually don't know specifics. I know I'd heard stuff about him and some other dudes being "sketchy" or something to that effect for years but honestly didn't think about it much. When the Rhymesayers SA allegations came up Dessa posted some kinda callout video where she's crying and says he's hurt people and needs to make amends before he can be back in the crew. I don't know if that means he assaulted people or just that he enabled other artists through his work with Rhymesayers somehow, she didn't specify.
