Hello friends, Heavy music fans all seem to have at least a general appreciation for Neurosis if not outright adoration. i lean more towards adoration. I figured we should have a thread of stories of shows, talking to band members, favorite records/songs etc.. I tend to lean towards Times of Grace as my favorite record but they all hit differently and when i got to see one of the anniversary shows in San Francisco a few years ago, i really appreciated the breadth of their musical catalog. I mean who else puts a song like Away on the same record as The Doorway? wild shit. post your Neurosis love here P.s. I'm currently watching their live set from 2015 at Saint Vitus right now and it crushes.

I am more in the general appreciation camp. I think they had to kick up their touring (especially Scott with his side projects and solo stuff) and output a few years back due to Scott's wife's medical issues which absolutely sucks.
I really liked Given to the Rising which was my introduction to them.

Through Silver In Blood will always get my blood pumping. Hard to pick a top record for that band though, I've been really appreciating Eye of Every Storm lately.

I have a weird relationship with Neurosis. I got turned on to them through Honor Found in Decay, but that's a departure from the rest of their catalog. I tend to gravitate more to the Harvestman-style stuff Steve puts out than to the general Neurosis sound.

definitely adoration.
potentially unpopular opinion? but the eye of every storm is my favourite; a season in the sky is imo one of the best songs of all time.
best neurosis moments are 1) driving to seattle to see them in 2013-- i think that was the loudest show i've ever been to; and 2) accidentally getting to the venue ages early because of anxiety the last time i saw them (in montreal last year with amenra and converge), sitting down on the curb to smoke a cigarette, and then looking up to realize that steve von till was very quietly sitting next to me.

I got my pre-order vinyl of the new Harvestman today, actually! Beautiful smoke vinyl. Can't wait to listen to it tonight.

I am partial to eye of every storm as well and i WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree that a season in the sky is on of their best. I have a halfsleeve dedicated to that record, imagery from a season in the sky and burn. the first time i saw them, a friend and I took the Megabus (not sure if thats still a thing) from minneapolis to chicago. stayed in some weird ass hotel downtown and took the train out to logan square. I got to meet Dave there and we talked about his parents who live in Albert Lea, MN. During on of the opening bands sets (i believe it was US Christmas) my friend and I talked to Scott, who was super nice too. I'm always kind of shocked that bands with such a huge followings are such relaxed and easygoing folks. LIke, they couldn't have nicer about me gushing at them about how excited i was to see them live. i got the Eye of Every storm on Vinyl not long ago and its just wonderful. I really wanted to pre-order Steve's newest solo record but never got around to it. i've listened to it and its great though.

I love Neurosis and, even though it means nothing, I get a real kick out of the fact that they record their albums just a few miles from where I live. Truly one of the best of all time. If I had to pick a favorite album right now, I'd say Times of Grace is my go-to but you can't go wrong with any of their releases. There seems to be one for every mood.
